With brigades of Stormtroopers under its command, the Galactic Empire can easily maintain order throughout the Star Wars galaxy. These troops may be effective at quelling dissent on any world unfortunate enough to come under Imperial sway, but they are of no use if the Empire cannot locate the Rebels and their hidden base. For that, they turn to the professionals.

Within this expansion, you’ll find a single unpainted, easily assembled Boba Fett miniature blasting off with his jetpack, alongside all the cards and tokens you need to incorporate him into your army. On top of his other weapons, his three signature command cards give you the chance to unlock the lethal potential tucked away in his Mandalorian armor. Finally, three upgrade cards provide even more options for outfitting Boba Fett or another of your units for battle.

Join us today as we take a closer look at all of the tricks Boba Fett has up his sleeve!

Tools of Destruction

As an independent bounty hunter, Boba Fett operates differently than practically every other Imperial unit. He doesn’t carry the standard E-11 Blaster Rifle worn by Stormtroopers and Snowtroopers or the lighter EC-17 Hold-out Blasters commonly issued to Scout Troopers. These weapons are good general-purpose options for infantry troops, but Boba Fett prefers specialized weapons, and for 140 points you gain a unit that has the right tool for almost every situation.

At any given moment, Boba Fett is ready to attack with no fewer than three weapons, and his Sharpshooter 2 keyword ensures that his ranged attacks land with pinpoint accuracy. His EE-3 Carbine can pierce through enemy defenses, making it the perfect option for taking on large groups of enemy troops. Still, anyone with a skill set like Boba Fett’s is likely to draw fire from more than just ground troops, and this powerful bounty hunter is prepared to face anything with armor thanks to his Wrist Rockets. This weapon rolls the same two black dice as the EE-3 Carbine, but adds the extra power to crack enemy armor. Both of these weapons are powerful on their own, but Boba Fett doesn’t necessarily have to choose between them. He is the first trooper unit in the game to bear the Arsenal keyword, allowing him to combine the dice and keywords from his EE-3 Carbine and Wrist Rockets into a single pool for one devastating attack or two quick attacks against separate units.

If the firepower from these weapons isn’t enough, Boba Fett’s signature command cards add more diversity to your command hand and give him access to even more weapons. For example, if he’s close enough, it’s not hard to see how Boba Fett could wipe out an entire trooper unit by combining his ZX Flame Projector with his EE-3 Carbine for an attack that ignores cover, cancels a block result, and adds a red attack die for every mini in the defending unit.

While he can certainly do some damage with these more traditional weapons, they aren’t the only surprises Boba Fett has for his enemies. His jetpack is a key part of his strategy, providing him with unsurpassed mobility and even a little extra firepower. Launching a Z-6 Jetpack Rocket gives you the chance to slam an enemy vehicle with a powerful attack from long range, helping you deal with armored enemies before they get too close.

On the Hunt

Despite his prowess on the battlefield, Boba Fett is still a bounty hunter, not a soldier. He may fight for the Empire, but he has little concern for its goals or ideals. Instead, he is motivated by personal gain. Luckily, these personal motivations can align with your own to help you win the overall battle.

Boba Fett bears the Bounty keyword, which lets him place a victory token on an enemy commander or operative after setup. Then, if Boba Fett can defeat the marked unit, he can claim the bounty, adding another victory token to your total at the end of the game.

Thankfully, Boba Fett has plenty of other tools to make this happen. It might not be a powerful weapon, but pinning his target in place with his Whipcord Launcher can give him the chance to deliver the killing blow. His chances become even better if he’s a Hunter,  granting him an aim token at the perfect time, while attacking a wounded trooper unit.

A bounty is no good if you’re among the casualties, of course, so it might be a good idea to equip Boba Fett with the other two upgrades found in this expansion. He might take a little less damage if you give him the ability to Duck and Cover.  Gaining a suppression token isn’t ideal, but it does raise your cover and Boba Fett isn’t known to panic, so it’s probably worth it if it means securing your bounty. Finally, if things become really desperate, you can always use some Emergency Stims during the final round to ensure Boba Fett survives the battle.
